The theological research and writing workshops will be offered on Tuesday afternoons, 1:30 pm – 2:30 pm. The Academic Skills Facilitator will be available after each workshop until 3:00 pm to discuss specifics issues and applications related to the topic of the day.

An overview of the research & writing process. Reading for comprehension and research. Taking well-organized and properly documented notes of class lectures and reading. Time Management.
Session 2 – RESEARCH PROCESS II Tuesday, October 3, 2017
Choosing a topic and developing a thesis. Library and online search strategies for finding sources. Evaluating sources for credibility and relevance.
Session 3 – WRITING I Tuesday, October 10, 2017
Developing a provisional outline. Understanding issues. Analysing and interacting with source materials. Taking a position and developing good arguments.
Session 4 – WRITING II Tuesday, October 24, 2017
Writing to think, to organize, and to present. Writing your first complete draft. Reviewing and re-organizing through multiple drafts. Revising for accuracy, clarity, and style. Documenting and formatting according to the seminary style-guide (SBL 2nd ed.).
Session 5 – ZOTERO Tuesday, October 31, 2017
Zotero [zoh-TAIR-oh] is a free, easy-to-use software tool that can help you collect, organize, and cite your sources in your research papers. Learn how to download, install and begin to use Zotero in your academic work.
Workshop Registration & Cost
Please register sufficiently in advance for each individual workshop you want to attend. To register for a workshop, send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org stating your name and the workshop you would like to attend. You can register for multiple workshops at the same time – just list the workshops you are registering for.
The pre-registration deadline is the Tuesday of the week prior to the workshop you want to attend. If you register by this deadline there is no financial cost to attending the workshop. If you register after the deadline you will need to pay $25 to attend the workshop.
